I don’t usually post more than once a day, but after I published my last post, I realized that I had made myself a promise last year on September 21. I told myself that most Trump supporters were beyond redemption and trying to argue with them was an exercise in futility.
Over the last year, I’ve been able to ignore most of them on social media. I rarely get in online arguments over anything else, for that matter.
While reading the comments section on any website can still get my blood boiling, I’ve really grown to understand the pointlessness of arguing with online trolls. While I am happy to engage in genuine debate with people worthy of my attention, most of the people who would bother to troll me online are not my intellectual equals. They prove that daily by taking intellectually dishonest positions. I’m smart enough to know the difference.
Although I do find myself getting obnoxious on Twitter occasionally, those episodes are few and far between. So, I have to say that I’m proud of myself for living up to this new standard. “Don’t feed the trolls” has been my mantra for an entire year now!
I’m an inspiration to you all. I wonder if this year’s list of Kennedy Center Honors recipients has been released yet?
