July 4 is the birthday of identical twins Ann Landers and Dear Abby.
In “Star Struck Style,” I tell a story about Ann Landers and Dear Abby, and how even though I was a kid, I knew that I was born to be a fashion critic because I would look at photos of the famous twins and wonder why they continued to wear their hair in styles that looked as if they were donning helmets.
The association between the sign of Cancer and the notion of “helmet head” is a strong one. Remember the other Landers sisters, Audrey and Judy? Audrey is a Cancer and Judy is a Libra. Of course, I could easily tell them apart because Audrey was the one with the helmet head, while Judy tended to wear her hair in a longer, looser style. Audrey also seemed more serious than Judy, which also made sense.
But I digress! Both Ann Landers and Dear Abby have a time of birth listed on astrotheme.com. If it is correct, the twins have several planets in their shared eleventh house, including the sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto. What’s more, the Part of Fortune is just a degree away from being conjunct with their shared natal sun.
The eleventh house has a connection to electronic media and the broad audience of things like magazines and newspapers. While the advice columnists made their mark on the world in a day and age when electronic social media didn’t yet exist, they were a precursor to today’s bloggers and social media stars: bona fide celebrities whose shtick was telling everyone else what to do. With Mars in the peacemaking sign of Libra in the second house, and the moon in Taurus in the tenth house very close to the midheaven, they were able to monetize their unique talents for not only empathizing with their readers, but bossing around their readers. Never forget that Cancer is an innately bossy sign.
Nowadays, I would expect to see a similar chart layout in someone who provides similar advice via WordPress, Instagram, or any other electronic platform. In fact, I have a Cancer moon (and a few other bossy planetary placements) and I live to tell you all what to do! I also have the Uranus/Pluto conjunction that the kids of my generation share in the eleventh house, and look at me! I took journalism in school because I wanted to write for newspapers and magazines, and now I’m a blogger. The connection between the eleventh house and the urge to reach a broad audience is real.
Now if only I could reach a broad audience. Someday . . .
