Saturn moves into Pisces this morning.
Looking back to the last time that Saturn moved through Pisces, it wasn’t difficult to me to come up with a cultural milestone that epitomized the era: Nirvana’s “MTV Unplugged.” Although the session was filmed in late 1993 while Saturn was still in Aquarius, it didn’t become what it was destined to become until a few months later. Saturn entered Pisces in January of 1994, Nirvana’s lead singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide in April of that year, and the record album was released on November 1.
Cobain was the poster boy for his zodiac sign with his sun, Mercury, Venus and Saturn in Pisces. In addition, he had the wateriest natal chart I’ve ever seen with his moon and Jupiter in Cancer, and his Mars and Neptune in Scorpio. This was a guy who felt things to the bone.
But I digress! Nirvana was the zeitgeist of the early nineties. I was in university at the time, and I remember how the glitz and glamour of the late eighties and early nineties started to feel so objectionable to me and almost everyone around me. Grunge was the antidote to a generation of conspicuous consumption. Kurt Cobain was the poster boy for that new era. And then he unplugged himself.
It’s always easy to come up with something significant in retrospect when trying to define the past from an astrological perspective. However, that’s not the point of this post. I’m truly curious about what might become the cultural milestone of this upcoming Saturn transit. I’m also curious to know what will become the significant event of Saturn’s transit through Aquarius. Was it Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter for way too much money? The guy ruined social media overnight for me and millions of other people, literally inspiring people to unplug themselves from their devices. Interestingly, that incident mirrors the version of the Ganymede myth that I talk about in my book where the golden boy/water bearer drowns humanity because he’s a spoiled child. It will be hard to beat that one for its obvious similarity, but everything looks different in retrospect.
Anyway, we’re all in a new place now. Personally, I’m a Saturn-ruled Capricorn with the planet in Pisces, so I’m excited to see how this is going to turn out. The late nineties were an interesting time in my life and my first Saturn return taught me a lot about myself — especially how to not feel sorry for myself when I had all the tools at my disposal to make my life more bearable.
How are you feeling about the next few years? Are you ready to unplug, or do you have different plans? Let me know in the comments section or on one of my social media pages.
