October 17 is Rita Hayworth’s birthday.

In my new book, I discuss Rita Hayworth in the celebrity profiles. I have always put the actress up on a pedestal: when I am asked to provide an example of iconic Libra style, she is usually the first person to pop into my mind.

But an interesting thing happened to me in between writing “Cosmically Chic” and writing “Star Stuck Style.” In the age of the internet, it’s a lot easier to look up photos of the stars I worship. When I studied those pictures of Rita Hayworth, I soon discovered how asymmetrical her face is.

I suppose that she knew it, too. She became a master of “cheating the camera” to ensure that her flaws were not perceived by her fans. The deep side-part she wore in her hair was utilized in a similar manner:…
