Mars is virtually stationary in Aries right now. Its retrograde cycle begins tomorrow evening in this part of the world.

This is one of the major astrological events of 2020. Mars retrograde cycles are not uncommon, but to have the planet spending its entire retrograde cycle in a sign over which it rules is rare.

What that means for all of us is that this is an especially significant retrograde period for the red planet. Energy and aggression that normally flows freely and in a specific direction will start to feel as if it is becoming “backed up” — for lack of a better term. Over time, this energy will accumulate because it is not flowing freely during the retrograde phase. When the next station occurs in mid-November, the flow will be restored. Unfortunately, a big release of that energy and aggression can cause some major problems.

Knowing that Mars is returning to direct motion right around the same time that Jupiter makes its final conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn concerns me. This is all happening not long after the American election, which already is promising to be a shit show.

On a more personal note, though, Mars’ retrograde cycle begins in my seventh house. That’s probably why I’m having such a difficult time at home right now. Living in a house with someone who is working from home and never leaves is really starting to get to me. I’ve been doing everything I can to remain calm under the circumstances. At least I can get out of the house this time of year. If I was living in Los Angeles right now, where wildfires, a heatwave and a pandemic have people trapped in their homes, I’d probably be feeling homicidal.

From late October through early December, retrograde Mars will slip back into my sixth house. The current tension I’m feeling at home could possibly shift to my professional environment. That makes sense because I am expecting to go back to work at the end of this month. I doubt that the transition to a post-lockdown workplace is going to be easy. Honestly, I believe that I can handle that a lot more easily than my current circumstances. I expect to be stressed out at work. Still, the fact that Mars’ next station occurs exactly square my natal sun concerns me. It puts a killing spree back on the table.

I’m kidding, of course! Still, I’m just going to have to be sure that the negative energy I’m internalizing throughout this phase is redirected in a positive manner so that it doesn’t build up, eventually causing a short-circuit or some kind of explosion. Hopefully, I’ll just keep gardening and working out (my traditional methods of dealing with stress) so that I don’t succumb to the worst of what this Mars retrograde has to offer.

Where is Mars turning retrograde in your chart? How do you plan to deal with this potentially-volatile situation? Let me know in the comments or on any of my social media accounts.
