Change is in the air! And I don’t mean the sort of change that will make you run out and get a haircut like Helen Reddy has in the photo I posted above, but if you did get that haircut I wouldn’t fault you for it. There’s something about how easygoing that hairstyle is that makes me believe that’s the place where fashion is going in the not-too-distant future.

But I digress! Between now and next Sunday’s new moon in Virgo, a whole bunch of changes in the sky will occur. It’s a pivotal week in 2018 — probably the most important week of the entire year.

First, Mercury moves into Virgo on Wednesday night. Mercury has been in Leo for an uncharacteristically long time because of its retrograde cycle. Now that it’s picking up speed again, it will make for a short-lived stay in one of the signs over which it rules. But with the sun still in the same sign for the next couple of weeks, a very Virgo-like September is in the stars. Mind the details and proceed with a bit of caution, but don’t lose sight of the big picture. Sunday’s new moon in Virgo is a great time to sit down and write a list of what has worked for you so far this year, and what has failed miserably. Your critical faculties should be sharp and your self-perception should be accurate on that day, so plan for a more realistic future.

However, also remember that Venus has just entered its retrograde shadow. It moves into Scorpio on Sunday, but it’s going to start to backtrack shortly afterward. Check out where this retrograde cycle occurs in your own chart. I’ve already discussed how it happens entirely within my first house in another post. That makes it a good time for me to reevaluate my beauty routine, my manners and the way I connect with other people on a superficial level. I could say that it’s a good time for someone like me to smile more. That might seem trite, but I can’t underestimate how far little things like that will go in the current cosmic climate. Perhaps Venus’ retrograde is occurring mostly within your tenth house. That could indicate that it’s a good time to be nicer to that coworker with whom you have nothing common. Small, seemingly-insignificant gestures will go a long way in the future.

But also remember that Mars moves back into Aquarius next Monday. It was already there, but it moved back into the final few degrees of Capricorn for a few weeks. Mars in Aquarius is a little detached. Avoid the compulsion to take to social media to air your grievances with others. Remember that you’re still dealing with living, breathing individuals and not just bots. Saturn turns direct in Capricorn this week, as well, and it’s eager to deliver a reality check. With support from Jupiter, which is also picking up speed in Scorpio, the ringed planet may be prompting some Karmic retribution. Your words may come back to haunt you if you’ve been assaulting strangers on Twitter all summer long, or just being a jerk on Facebook because no one bothered to call you out.

That’s a lot to think about! Are you Reddy for it?
