My astrologer friend Tracy does something that I’ve never done: she associates with a lot of other astrologers. Although I have been able to make a living writing about astrology, it has always been one of my various sidelines. I haven’t sought out formal training, and that is one of the reasons that I have never really become part of “the network.” That doesn’t bother me. I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve read a lot of books and I’ve spent a lot of time gaining genuine experience interpreting charts, writing horoscopes, etc. I’m not intimidated by other astrologers. I just don’t hang around with many of them.
Anyway, Tracy and I were out a couple of weeks ago when she asked me about whole sign houses. I told her that I wasn’t familiar with the concept, but I said that I would look into it. Years and years ago, I experimented with a few different house systems to see what worked for me. Like a lot of other astrologers, I ended up sticking with the Placidus system. Again, experience led me in that direction.
I was curious, though, because whole sign houses are promoted on “The Astrology Podcast.” I like to listen to the show, although it often becomes a little too “academic” for me. That’s saying a lot because I’m the sort of guy who reads books like Fred Gettings’ “The Arkana Dictionary of Astrology” for fun.
I decided to do a little experiment with Jupiter’s impending ingress into Scorpio. In the whole sign house system, Jupiter entered my second house in October. In the Placidus system, it entered my second house sometime on Monday. I was just going to pay attention to my financial situation to see if anything seemed different between those two periods.
I mentioned the Placidus second-house ingress to Tracy and she told me that I should go to the casino. I laughed because we both know how much I like the casino. I’m not working right now, though, and my luck has been terrible for a while.
Still, I couldn’t help myself. I went to the casino yesterday: the first full day with Jupiter in my second house. And guess what? I left with more money than I’ve won in ages. Tons of money! The kind of money that is going to make me not have to worry about money for a couple of months.
So, what do I think of the whole sign house system vs. the Placidus system? I think I’ll stick to what I know.
