January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday.

I should probably be discussing Elvis in “Viva Las Vegas,” but once again, I’m going to make this post all about me. It’s my blog and I can digress if I want to!

As anyone who knows me already knows, I can’t get enough of Las Vegas. What really gets me going, however, is being in Las Vegas and knowing that I’m standing in the same spot where something like the photo above was taken. That’s the pool area at the Flamingo. It’s a beautiful place. I actually remember having the worst hangover of my life and visiting that pool in order to pull myself together while the Advil kicked in. I have several other vivid memories of the location — abnormally vivid, to be honest. And even though it doesn’t look the same as it did in 1964 when “Viva Las Vegas” was filmed, the spot still seems somewhat magical to me.

I know that sounds crazy, but in astrology there are supposed to be places that are good for you and places that are bad for you. If you visit astro.com, you can actually pull up charts that tell you where you’ll find your luck. However, I don’t know if it’s luck that I feel when I’m there, or something akin to fate. I wasn’t around in 1964, and I don’t really know what to think about the notion of reincarnation, but I can honestly say that I feel something inexplicable when I’m near the pool area of the Flamingo where that scene was shot. I’ve felt that way my entire life. I don’t know what else to say about it.
