Sometime this weekend, I will celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the first workshop I attended to become certified as a group fitness trainer. That means that I’ve been leading exercise classes for two-thirds of my long life.
I’m quite pleased with myself, especially when I realize that I can do a lot of things that many other sixty-year-olds would struggle to do. I’m also happy that I’ve stuck with this one sideline for as long as I have because I do have a mind that wanders into new territory quite often. One day I’m an astrologer, the next day I’m a writer, One day I’m a gardener, the next day I’m a fashion expert. One day I’m a gym manager . . .
Anyway, later this evening I will be getting recertified to teach indoor cycling classes. I’ve been doing those classes since the fall of 1998. I’m quite confident that I’ll pass with flying colors.
I don’t believe that I’ll ever retire from this discipline because it has become the thing that grounds me the most; even gardening has its limitations for me since I live so far north. Maybe in ten years from now, I’ll come across this post as I’m preparing to celebrate my fiftieth year in the business. Hopefully. someone will be throwing a party for me.
I deserve it, right?
