Mars (source: Smithsonian Magazine)

“A willingness to share” is the title of my daily horoscope on astro.com. It describes Mars’ ingress into my second house: a transit that will last roughly seven weeks.

I’m not really sure if I buy into this interpretation of the transit. It goes on as follows:

“At this time you are inclined to identify your ego with what you own and what you value. You may consider your financial position to be a sign of your personal worth. If you have money, you feel that you are a good person. If you don’t, you feel bad and discouraged, quite aside from anything you have accomplished. You act as if you are what you have. You may become overly touchy about your beliefs, opinions and desires in some area and get into arguments about their merit or worth. On the other hand, you are willing to use your possessions to get work done. If you have something that can help you accomplish a task, you will use it. Once you have got over petty ego problems with your possessions, you will allow others to use what you have, so long as they acknowledge your willingness to share.”

I suppose I understand the connection between “petty ego problems” and Mars’ movement through this sector of my chart, but I’m not sure where the author of this passage makes the connection between an individual’s possessiveness and their need to be acknowledged for their ability to be less possessive. It’s a bit of a stretch, isn’t it?

It’s easier for me to get behind the “Café Astrology” interpretation of this event:

“You have more energy at your disposal to make money, but also to defend your values. This can be a very resourceful time, when you make the most of what you have. You have much energy for new money-making projects, or for stepping up existing ones. You may be over-identifying with what you have and own, and you could be trying to prove yourself (your worth) to others using money and possessions as the means to do so. If conflicts occur during this transit, they are likely to be over issues of ownership. This is a time when impulse buying is at a peak. You probably should avoid using credit right now, simply because your spending habits may be excessive and impulsive.”

In either case, I’m eager to make more money. I don’t believe that I’m going to have to worry about spending too much because I really have accepted the fact that I have too much of everything. I normally have a Black Friday/Boxing Day wish list made up so that I can stalk the things I like until they go on sale, but not this year. I just don’t need anything right now.

Maybe the switch in my brain that makes me shop impulsively will flip this evening once Mars makes its move, but I don’t think I’m going to suddenly revert back to my spendthrift ways. Having three major planets in my fourth house has made me more conservative with my money. Until that changes, I don’t believe that anything Mars does is going to make me get further into debt just to satisfy an irrational need to own what I can’t afford.

I guess I can thank my lucky stars for that!
