Botox (source: Allure)

The sun makes its annual opposition to my natal Venus tomorrow.

Many astrologers tend to discuss transits involving Venus in terms of their effects upon relationships. However, those transits can have an impact upon things like discretionary income, personal taste and beauty treatments. Just the other day, for instance, I discussed how transiting Venus’ opposition to my natal Saturn resulted in a trip to the emergency dentist where I was informed that I would need a root canal. A few thousand dollars later . . .

I had actually planned to visit the big mall by my house tomorrow to get my new reading glasses adjusted. Now that I know that Venus and the sun will be at odds, I’m going to put off that trip for another day. I’ll probably be feeling somewhat vulnerable and prone to doing things to feel better about myself that I might regret later, like blowing my savings on fancy designer clothing that I don’t need.

“Cafe Astrology” offers an interpretation of this brief transit that alludes to matters other than relationships:

“Ego reactions to feeling underappreciated are quite possible now. This is not the best time for ego stroking on social and romantic levels. You may not appreciate how others are handling you just now. Pushing it won’t solve any problems. In fact, lonely or frustrated feelings that might arise now are likely a reflection of your own inner discontent. Getting in touch with what is making you feel down could help you to solve problems now. This is not the best time to ask for what you want.”

It might seem like a bit of a stretch to connect the advice in that passage to something like Botox injections, but people do a lot of strange things to deal with “inner discontent,” including getting cosmetic beauty treatments that they may not even need, or buying clothes that aren’t really their style just because they are on sale. Most of us are guilty of feeding our egos in unhealthy ways every now and then. And since this blog is supposed to be about style and self-expression, I feel obliged to discuss those topics occasionally. I know, right?

So, I think I’m going to lay low tomorrow. Maybe I’ll putz around the garden while I wait for Venus and the sun to work this one out. Otherwise, I might just do something I’ll soon regret.
