I probably should have written a profile of Symone on her birthday back in January, but I was actually waiting to see if any of the birth dates listed on “Fandom” changed after the premiere of Season 13 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” The site is actually pretty good when it comes to accuracy, and they typically correct mistakes not long after they are first published.
Anyway, I went back to look at Symone’s social media posts, and it looks as if I can confirm that her birthday is January 14, 1995: she said so herself on Instagram. That is one day before the date listed on “Fandom.” In either instance, that would put her natal sun in Capricorn and her moon in Cancer. You know who else shares that combination? Me!
It’s also the sun/moon combination of Mary J. Blige and the Duchess of Cambridge. I used to own a terrific astrology book by Sasha Fenton that discussed sun and moon signs. The entry for the sun in Capricorn/moon in Cancer said something like this: “Try to get down to the level of others sometimes. You can be intimidating.”
That quote has stuck with me for my entire life. I try to not to be a snob, but sometimes my intelligence gives people the impression that I’m arrogant. I don’t believe that I am, but I do like myself a lot (even when my “inner saboteur” is telling me that I’m full of shit). With my Cancer moon, I vacillate between being the most confident person in the room and the least confident person in the room, often within the same breath. Thankfully, that doesn’t deter me from behaving like I own the room. I can see the same drama playing itself out in Symone’s head on every episode of “Drag Race.”
I was pretty sure that she was going to be crowned the winner of Season 13 until this week’s episode, but the competition in the final three is quite fierce (I’m not going to count Kandy Muse amongst the top three queens because no one in the world believes that she’s going to win). If Symone does win, that would mean that a Capricorn queen has finally snatched the crown. More importantly, that means that the one Capricorn queen who has won the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” is also a part of my exclusive club. If I could sew, I’d make us matching sashes so that everyone in the world would know what we have in common.
But even if she doesn’t win, I’m still delighted to know that we are cut from the same cloth. She is remarkable, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Edited to add: I had my computer program set to 12:00 PM instead of AM, so there is a chance that Symone has a Gemini moon. If that’s the case, I don’t like her anymore. I’m kidding, sort of . . .
