I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when the fashion shows returned a couple of weeks ago. Now that New York is in the rear-view window and London has begun, I’m still not quite sure what to expect.

Designers like Michael Halpern (whose dress I featured in the photo above), have simply returned to their typical modus operandi. Others, like Tom Ford, have channeled their creativity into an attempt to cheer themselves up. What I haven’t really seen yet is a show that screams “FUCK THE ESTABLISHMENT!” or “EAT THE RICH!”

A few times over the last several months, I’ve predicted a return to a more Grunge-like era. The ridiculous, logo-centric excess that has defined fashion in the age of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci has got to give, especially when anti-capitalistic/anti-establishment sentiment is boiling over all around the world.

However, most of these collections were designed at a time when Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto were all retrograde in Capricorn. All three of these planetary heavyweights turn direct while the S/S 2021 shows are being presented. To me, that indicates a “disconnect” between what we have been seeing during this show season and what people will be wearing next spring and summer.

By that time, Jupiter and Saturn will have formed their generational conjunction in Aquarius, ushering what I expect will be a period of weirdness-for-the-sake-of-weirdness and general contrarianism when it comes to fashion, hot on the heels of a backlash against commercialism in general.

It has to happen. People are pissed off at top 1% right now, so idolizing their looks and their lifestyles doesn’t seem like a valid survival mechanism in this new decade.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t believe I am. Fashion is about to eat itself alive. People don’t have the money to keep spending, nor the desire to see rich people get richer.

Bring on the backlash!
