I have a love/hate relationship with the fashion business. I love fashion and all the opportunities it affords individuals to express themselves creatively, but I hate how creative expression is bought and sold like just another commodity. Still, I’d rather see a zillion guys with too much money trying too hard to be stylish (like the “street style” crowd in the photo above) than the alternative.
The alternative is that group of guys who pretend to be style icons on Instagram and TikTok. I run across the accounts of self-described “influencers” on a regular basis: guys who wear button-up shirts, chinos and sneakers while acting as if they’ve reinvented the fucking wheel. Oh look! It’s the same slim-fit shirt in three different colors! It’s a hoodie and a pair of joggers worn with the same pair of sneakers! How revolutionary.
In the past, I’ve discussed all the outer planets currently in Capricorn and how I believe that this sort of inauthenticity is dying right before our eyes. Still, it can’t happen soon enough for me. By the time Jupiter and Saturn leave Capricorn to make their Grand Conjunction in the first degree of Aquarius in the last few days of 2020, a lot of these guys are going to be seen for what they are: uncreative opportunists with nothing of value to sell. I can’t wait!
The fashion business is undergoing a major correction due to the so-called “retail apocalypse.” This shift in spending began long before the Coronavirus changed the shopping habits of the entire world (too much money was poured into fashion retail because investors thought it was an easy way to make a buck). With a lot less money to go around now, and the backlash against capitalism that seems to reemerge in somewhat generational cycles, these “influencers” are going to have to try a lot harder to impress their audiences. Some of them will survive, but most of them won’t because the advertising money that has been sustaining their endeavors just isn’t there any more. Too bad!
I know that a lot of astrologers look at outer planet transits in the sign of Capricorn as something that should facilitate capitalism. But with Karmic planets like Saturn and Pluto in the sign rewarding hard work and discipline, corrections occur. I’m still convinced that the stock market is going to collapse before the end of the year (it’s being propped up by the US Federal Reserve in a manner that most economists believe is unsustainable), and I’m still quite sure that the age of the online “influencer” is coming to an end.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you . . .
