Like a lot of other obsessed fans, I watched the season premiere of the “Real Housewives of Orange County” the other day to see if I was going to be able to get into the show now that Bravo has demoted Vicki Gunvalson to a “friend of the housewives.” RHOC is definitely low on my list of favorites, but it does have its moments.
The premiere did have a few scenes that stood out. First of all, Tamra’s skinny, weird son Ryan is a Trump supporter. WTF? Also, he shaved his gross beard sometime over the season so that he is bearded in his scenes and beardless in his confessionals. Gina also made some changes to her looks and appears to be a completely different person in her confessionals. I barely recognized her! Otherwise, it was a lot of the same old, same old. Tamra moved again. Emily’s kids are brats. Kelly is horrible. Shannon is Vicki in a different package.
The one bright spot on the show was the introduction of the new housewife, Braunwyn. She is the mother of seven children, and the scene with her kids at breakfast time was by far the most interesting thing I’ve seen on this show for a while. Of course, I also loved “The Brady Bunch” when I was a kid.
I actually wanted to learn more about her, so I went to Twitter to see if she had a profile on the site. When I found her profile, I sent her a note to ask her zodiac sign. She responded immediately. Yay! I love when these women play along with me! I still don’t know her exact date of birth. Hopefully, I’ll learn it sooner rather than later.
Anyway, she’s a Sagittarius, like NeNe Leakes, Sonja Morgan, Dorinda Medley, Jill Zarin and Candiace Dillard. Sagittarius natives are quite homogeneous on these shows. They’re fun loving and passionate, they fight and forgive in the same breath, and they keep the drama coming. For that reason, I have high hopes for Braunwyn and the current season of RHOC. If you’ve even been to Orange County, the L.A. air quality can get pretty stale. Of all the “Housewives” shows, this is the one that needed a breath of fresh air. I think we’ll have that in Braunwyn.
