I am appearing at the Edmonton Fall Home Show this weekend to discuss how your zodiac sign can affect the way you decorate your home. More details are available by clicking the “About Me” tab above and accessing my Facebook or Instagram pages.
Anyway, I was a local news show this week, “CTV Morning Live,” where I was explaining the difference between the way I approach fashion vs. decor. In fashion, I assign the sun sign supreme power, although I do recognize that the rising sign and the position of Venus in the natal chart can influence an individual’s sense of style. In decor, there are a few other factors to consider.
The moon sign can determine where one feels comfortable. The rising sign can also prevail in the case of a weakly-placed sun, allowing an individual to put up a rather false front. Venus can affect one’s taste level, too. What’s more important, though, when discussing the relationship between astrology and decorating is determining the relationships between you and the people with whom you share your home.
For instance, I look at the room in the photo above and I instantly get Virgo vibes because of the plants and the predominantly white color pallette. Upon closer inspection, however, I have to qualify that assessment. Would a Virgo really want a white couch? I’m not even a Virgo, and that white couch seems like a recipe for disaster to me, especially in a room that opens to the outdoors.
When I see all the antlers on the walls, I start to think that maybe this a Scorpio room. You’ll see reminders of life and death in a Scorpio environment. But will you see a white couch? Scorpios are picky, too. Even if that Scorpio was a zillionaire and had someone else cleaning up after them, I still would have to question the choice of fabric.
What this room actually represents is a little of this and a little of that. Most of us have to find a way to compromise with the people who share our home. For that reason, when I’m discussing how astrology affects decorating style, I often find myself talking about relationships. If I was to say an Aries woman might want to make all the decorating decisions herself without consulting her spouse, it wouldn’t be such a stretch. Traditional astrology tells me that is what is going to happen. I’m not just making this stuff up.
Anyway, I’m excited about this presentation. It’s fun to take astrology into places it normally doesn’t go. I’ve been able to book some fairly prestigious gigs in the past talking about this stuff. It’s nice to know that people are still interested in hearing what I have to say.
