March 4 is Catherine O’Hara’s birthday.
I make a lot of fun of Pisces individuals for a couple of reasons. First of all, they can take a joke. Second, the clichés that define the sign are hilarious. At their worst, the stereotypical Pisces is a self-deluded, pill-popping mess who can’t decide whether she wants to laugh or cry.
It’s no surprise, then, that Catherine O’Hara’s most memorable character on SCTV was Lola Heatherton. Heatherton was composite of many entertainers from the 60s and 70s, including Lola Falana and Joey Heatherton, of course. Yet the most-pointed satire in the recurring skits was directed at another Pisces: Liza Minnelli.
After watching the video I posted above (click the link), I wish that O’Hara would revive the character of Lola Heatherton — if not for my amusement, then for the women of the world. Could you imagine Lola Heatherton leading a women’s march? Maybe she could bring along some of her famous friends, too. I wonder what Charlene Tilton is doing . . .
