January 15 is Skrillex’s birthday.
I knew that there were a couple of famous Capricorn DJs around because I spend practically every vacation I have at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where Calvin Harris and Tiesto are the resident DJs at the nightclub Hakkasan. I thought it was more than just a coincidence that the pair share a birthday. When I saw that Skrillex was also a Capricorn, I had a look to see if there were any more DJs that shared my sign.
I found exactly what I expected to find. Deadmau5, Andrew Taggart of the Chainsmokers, Hardwell, Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk and Armin van Buuren are also Capricorns — and those are just the names I recognized.
I remember taking an aptitude test in high school where the results indicated that I should have been an orchestrator or a musical arranger. I laughed it off because at the time I didn’t believe that I possessed any natural musical talent. But I’ve always had a thing for dance music and I am especially fond of well-produced, innovative dance music that keeps the genre moving forward. When I listen carefully to music I admire, I can pick out individual instruments and discuss the arrangement of the songs with people who actually know what they’re talking about. I don’t have musical talent because I’ve never bothered to cultivate musical talent, but I do have a good ear. I was born with it.
As a rule, DJs and music producers create order. They take several disparate elements and rearrange them. Capricorns understand order. Virgos do, too. When I clicked on the profiles of famous DJs, I found Capricorns and Virgos galore. That doesn’t surprise me at all. An aptitude for arrangement was written in the stars of these individuals.
Perhaps there’s still a career for me in music, after all. Maybe I’ll take up the banjo . . .
