I was just clicking through the slideshows on vogue.com when I came across this practical ensemble by a designer named Nasir Mazhar. While it’s supposed to be menswear week in London, the lines between seasons and shows is becoming increasingly blurred. Some designers are showing the women’s resort collections simultaneously with their menswear looks. Others are showing Spring/Summer 2017 shows in June instead of September.
So what does this all mean? With Saturn in Sagittarius, the impulse to rock the establishment is present. Unfortunately, most of the people who bother to rock the establishment make a little money during their idealistic rebellion, and by the time Saturn enters Capricorn they become the new establishment. It’s a story as old as time itself.
So what do I have to say about this? Who cares? If you want to show menswear and womenswear on the same runway, be my guest. If you want to show your spring collection three months early, more power to you. If you want to wear gold lame capri pants with an elasticized waist, thigh cut-outs, lace-up accents and a camel toe, no one is stopping you. Just don’t pretend to buck the system while you’re attempting to become the system. It will look bad on you in a couple of years when Saturn has you hoarding cash in offshore bank accounts to avoid paying taxes to the left-wing government you voted into power.
