I got out of bed very early today because I fell asleep so early on new year’s eve. On the bright side, I feel terrific. I’m ready to start this new year on the right foot.

The universe is going to cooperate with me. Mercury joins the sun, Venus and Mars in Capricorn today, making this old goat feel as if he’s in his element. Much of 2026 will feel the same to me. Transiting Saturn will spend almost the entire year in my sixth house. That’s a comfortable placement for someone who is innately orderly. Transiting Jupiter will spend much of the year in my ninth and tenth houses. I was born with Jupiter in the ninth house, but its transits of the tenth house bring out the Capricorn in me. It makes me feel as if my superiority complex is rooted in my demonstrable superiority. I know, right?

Anyway, I’ve spent the last few days soaking up the subtle clues the universe seems to be sending me regarding the direction I should be headed in the future. This is something that everyone should be doing between now and the new moon in Capricorn on January 18. With both Neptune and Saturn ready to vacate Pisces over the next few weeks, impressions, hunches and gut feelings need to be recognized, analyzed, and perhaps even trusted.

A clearer picture of a future path will emerge once these two planets move into Aries. I called 2025 “The Year of False Starts” in a previous post. That energy persists into the first part of 2026, but it eventually gives way to a more-cardinal, more-intentional vibe. Plans won’t need to be altered a dozen times over. Indecision will be replaced with decisiveness.

In the meantime, it’s not a bad idea to let others know that your intentions for the new year have not been set in stone. Like an invitation to an event that reads “weather permitting,” you need to have a disclaimer ready for when your plans are thwarted by an unpredictable cosmic climate.

Just be ready for anything over the next several weeks. If there is anything we can learn while four planets are transiting Capricorn, it is to be prepared for whatever is on the horizon. Take the time between now and the new moon to get ahead of yourself without tripping over your own feet and sliding back down to the base of the mountain. This year belongs to the most surefooted among us.
