The year of the Wood Dragon officially arrived this morning. The Chinese Tiger month — the official start of spring and the cusp of the new year— corresponds to 15° Aquarius in the Western zodiac. Chinese New Year, the celebratory event, happens next weekend after the new moon arrives (either February 9 or February 10, depending upon where you live).
The Chinese zodiac is a sixty-year cycle. That means that next year during the year of the Wood Snake, I’ll start repeating those cycles since I was born in the final astrological month of the last Wood Snake year. In the meantime, I visited “Fortune Angel” to read what the new year has in store for me. Here’s what I discovered:
“Male Wood is your Companion star. A money event will come with your friends in this period. If you and your friends can help each other well, then you have a chance to earn some extra money. If the friendship is not strong enough, then you have the chance to lose your time and investment. The events in this year are related to independence, expansion, lost, plot, complex, challenge, simplicity, competition, egotism, friendship, separation and decision. Dragon is your Money star. This is a period mainly about your money. You will work hard for money and money will come into your pocket — either by earning cash or borrowing it. The events in this year are related to money, trade, business, property, real estate, housing, capital, furniture, jewelry, investment, economy, finance and diligence.
This entire period is related to your money. First, your friends, siblings or relatives might help you earn extra money. Later they will ask you to help them by lending them money or making an investment together. In this case, you need to think twice before making any decisions — it’s too risky. Money and friendship sometimes do not go hand in hand. Or you might hire someone to protect your money, business or property. This will cost you a lot at the end — bodyguard or protection fee can cost you a fortune.”
While I would like to be so rich that I need a bodyguard, I’m not convinced that this new year will bring me a fortune of that magnitude. I do buy a lot of lottery tickets, though. On the other hand, I also visit Las Vegas a lot with my friends. Maybe I’ll hit the jackpot when we’re there this April.
In the meantime, I should probably explore some ideas to make money. It’s been ages since I’ve turned one of my sidelines into a legitimate business project. Now that some changes have been made in my immediate environment, I can probably embark upon a creative endeavor without feeling as if I can’t get the time or space to express myself.
I am encouraged by this forecast, even though these annual predictions haven’t always proven to have a great deal of relevance to my life. Last year’s forecast, however, seemed quite prescient now that I’m looking at it in retrospect. Still, I’ve found Chinese astrology to rather hit-and-miss from a predictive perspective. That’s not going to stop me from looking into these horoscopes, though. I find myself enchanted by the symbolism of Chinese astrology, even when I’m questioning its accuracy.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’ll be revisiting this post again next year when the Wood Snake year arrives. Or maybe I’ll get my bodyguard to post something for me. Only time will tell . . .
