I make jokes all the time about Groundhog Day being my favorite holiday because there is so little pressure to perform when the day arrives. You don’t need to buy presents. No one asks you over for dinner. You don’t have to decorate your house. Also, you get to celebrate groundhogs. What’s not to like about that?
Astrologically, there’s a reason that I like it so much. Right around February 2, the sun conjoins my natal Venus. As someone with Libra as a rising sign, of course that’s a terrific day for me — one of the best of the year!
I’m typically lazy and a little decadent when this annual transit occurs. Yesterday, I noticed that a Missoni t-shirt that I had on my Mr. Porter wish list was an additional 20% off the sale price. Since I’ve been behaving myself for the past few weeks, I decided that I should reward myself and I bought it. Yes, I know that I had resolved to not spend any more money on clothes, but I had been stalking this shirt since this time last year when it first arrived on the website. That’s just how I shop. Of the dozen-or-so things that I had put on my wish list last year, only two remained. Everything else either sold out or was no longer available in my size. I don’t regret making this purchase because I had already planned on making it almost a year ago.
Giving into my decadent nature is something that just happens when Venus is forming harmonious aspects in my horoscope: I know that about myself. For that reason, I need to be a little more prudent when it comes to choosing how I allow myself to give in. There are a lot of things that will make me happy, like overeating, drinking too much wine or spending money that I can’t afford to spend. However, there are plenty of other things that make me happy, and I don’t feel so guilty about them once Venus moves out of this alignment. I need to focus on those things for a few more days. Once the sun moves out of orb from this aspect, it immediately forms a trine with my ascendant degree followed by a trine to my natal Jupiter. Those alignments also make me susceptible to many of my own worst impulses. They can make me unrealistically optimistic.
Regardless of how badly I might behave, I still enjoy the way that I feel in early February — especially on Groundhog Day itself. So, I’m not really kidding when I declare that it’s my favorite holiday. I can’t help myself! My fondness for this time of year was written in the stars.
