I’m a healthy guy. I take good care of myself and it shows. Nevertheless, I am still human and not entirely invincible. This past month has shown me that. First of all, I caught my foot on a broken cupboard door at the gym and fell down hard. I cracked a rib, bruised my knee, and strained my shoulder. That affected my routine enough that I chose to adapt some of my workouts. While doing an alternative Vinyasa flow yoga class that I was sure was not sequenced properly, I strained my pectineus muscle badly enough that I had to take a few days off from exercising entirely. Then yesterday morning, I was hit with a stomach bug for the first time since 2016. The actual “episode” was only a few hours long, but the aftereffects were debilitating. I slept eleven hours last night after spending most of the day sleeping on the couch. It took a lot out of me!
What’s interesting about all of this is that Chiron has spent the entire month hovering within 10″ of a square to my natal sun. It just started moving forward again the other day, but it’s going to be a while until it picks up speed and gets off my back.
I know that there are people out there who study medical astrology, and I should try to seek them out to see how they use Chiron in their practice. Much of the tradition behind medical astrology is centuries old, and Chiron wasn’t discovered until 1977. Nevertheless, I find that Chiron is personalized in my horoscope because of its opposition to my natal Pluto/Uranus conjunction. I’ve found a tremendous amount of relevance by studying Chiron’s movements through my natal chart — even more than some of the traditional planets.
Realizing that Chiron has been squaring my natal sun so closely during its station makes me believe that it must be playing a role in my current state of wellbeing. I don’t know when I’ve had such a “vulnerable” month when it comes to my health. What’s more, I have a minor medical procedure on my back and a root canal booked in January before Chiron moves forward. With the way that things have been going, I’m concerned about complications. I’m really not out of the woods until Chiron moves out of orb from this square in mid-February.
In the meantime, I’m going try to take good care of myself. It’s New Year’s Eve, so I might as well make a resolution to stay healthy. I’ve been able to avoid the emergency ward for a few decades, and I would be happy to avoid it for a few decades more. When I fell a few weeks ago, I thanked myself for being healthy enough to escape being injured more seriously. And when this is all over, I can thank my lucky stars that I won’t have to deal with this transit again for another fifty years.
