Since Saturn entered Capricorn late last year, I’ve been discussing what I call “the authenticity deficit.” I believe that there is something especially fake about the way that people are conducting themselves lately — especially on social media — yet I also believe that Saturn’s transit through Capricorn is going to change that.
But there are two other planets in Capricorn at the moment, as well: Mars and Pluto. Tomorrow morning, they meet each other in the sign of the goat at about 21°. This conjunction happens every couple of years, so it’s not one of those once-in-a-lifetime alignments astrologers like to talk about. Still, it’s one the most important events of 2018.
Mars can represent energy and Pluto can represent transformation. Capricorn is a no-nonsense sign where authenticity reigns supreme. It’s a place where we fall back in order to get back up again. If we learn to put our setbacks into context, Capricorn is a sign of constant ascension.
What I see occurring for those of us who have 21° Capricorn personalized in our charts is a recent setback (or a combination of setbacks) that may have us feeling as if we need to go back to the drawing board. It’s a time to accept who we are and where we are at in our lives. This aspect is going to give us a chance to wipe off the veneer of inauthenticity we have been wearing in order to put on a new uniform: something that represents a truer version of ourselves — warts and all. It’s like RuPaul the character transforming back into RuPaul Charles, the man behind the character.
I’m looking at this conjunction as a chance for a figurative rebirth. The connection of both Mars and Pluto to the Scorpionic myth of the phoenix rising from the ashes is apt, only with Capricorn involved the opportunity to rise further and further is present if one accepts that the only way to go is up.
So, if you’ve hit rock bottom (figuratively or literally), it’s time to look at where you can go. Figure out where this conjunction occurs in your own natal chart and try to assess if this is good time to reinvent that part of your life. For instance, the Mars/Pluto conjunction is in my third house of communication, not much further than a degree away from my IC. And here I am thinking that my writing career was more productive when I was distracted by working for a living. It’s only been two weeks since I started my part-time job and already I’m using my time more wisely, just like I did when I was actually creating something enduring.
The chance to transform our lives into something more enduring, more productive and more authentic is upon us. In the words of RuPaul, “Don’t fuck it up.”
