Despite my lack of interest lately in blogging about astrological style, I still log in to vogue.com every day to read about whatever is going on in the world of fashion. Of course, as this is the season of major debuts, I’ve been eager to find out which designers are “the right fit” at the various labels to which they have been assigned.
Anyway, I’m pretty impressed by Haider Ackermann at Tom Ford. His militaristic Aries rigor is good match at a label that I’ve always assigned to Capricorn: the sign of rigor. Even at a time when clothes are moving away from the body on every other runway, the designer has figured out a way to make them fitted without falling off. As a Capricorn myself, and someone who has spent a lifetime in the gym, that’s about as baggy as I go. I don’t do gigantic pants or tops that make me feel swaddled in superfluous fabrics. Why would I want to take attention away from all my hard work?
Another designer debut that I was thrilled to see was Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta. She just gets the brand. In both of my books, I’ve assigned the label to Capricorn, too. I still have no idea what Trotter’s zodiac sign is, though. I’m going to guess that she’s a Taurus because Taurus designers tend to do their best work at other people’s labels. Trotter was terrific in her former posts at Carven and Lacoste.
I still don’t have a date of birth for Dario Vitale at Versace, either, so I’m not quite sure where to fit him into my grand scheme of things.
Jonathan Anderson made his debut at Christian Dior, as well. My friend Sarah Mower used the word “weird” in her “Vogue Runway” review: a word that I’ve used to describe Anderson time and time again. He’s a Virgo, but I’ve always categorized him as an Aquarius designer because of his weird for the sake of weirdness modus operandi. No one is better at taking weird takes on design and turning them into mainstream ideas. Dior is a label that I’ve assigned to Leo because of its former association with cinematic glamour, but in both of my books I discuss Leo and Aquarius as the “glamour” signs, although the motivation to be glamorous is quite different for the natives of the opposing signs.
Demna also made his debut at Gucci, but in a sort of expected way for an Aries creative director who uses innovation and hype to promote his ideas. The problem was that he has done the exact same thing before. But I can’t fault him for knowing where his talents lie. It actually makes me believe that he’s going to be a good fit at Gucci. The brand has become associated with “moments” ever since they handed the reigns to Alessandro Michele. Aries designers are terrific at creating moments.
There are still a few more debuts to take place before the shows wrap up. Maybe I’ll take a deeper dive into everything that’s going on. Every now and then, I stop talking about myself long enough to pay attention to what other people are doing.
Stay tuned for more . . .
