Jupiter enters Cancer this afternoon where it will transit for the next fifty-five weeks.
Jupiter was in detriment in Gemini. I can attribute a lot of the problems that have happened in the world over the last year to that uncomfortable position for the gaseous giant. The lying and exaggeration coming from politicians — especially all the Gemini politicians — has been especially egregious. On the bright side, Gemini native Pierre Poilievre lost the Canadian election and his own seat in Parliament after squandering what seemed like an insurmountable lead. The world is waking up to the idea that a steady diet of misinformation does not nourish its soul. With Jupiter in Cancer, hard truths will make themselves obvious.
Why do I say that? I believe that Cancer is the sign of hard truths. Sure, it’s a place where sentimentality and the maternal instinct are highlighted, but it’s also the place where the maternal instinct causes a black widow spider to eat her mate once he fertilizes her eggs. The motto for the sign could be the incredibly unsentimental phrase “You do what you gotta do.” While some people may describe the sign as “conservative,” there is nothing conservative about any of the cardinal signs. They are led by instinct, and always push forward. In the case of Cancer natives, they often look back at the past through rose-colored glasses and that can make them appear to idealize the past. Still, they instinctively march forward, sometimes side-stepping around problems like the crab that symbolizes the sign.
Many of us might find that we are compelled to be a little more insular and less concerned with the world-at-large while Jupiter transits Cancer. “Café Astrology” alludes to this inward-looking influence in its interpretation of the event:
“During this transit, we place more value on our homes, family, heritage, and traditions, as well as laying down roots, trusting our gut instincts, and seeking security. We see opportunities to grow and succeed through emotional channels, expanding our own foundations, and building our families. We are more inclined to believe that emotional intelligence is the primary key to solving problems. Connecting intimately is especially valued.”
I do agree with that forecast. However, I’m personally going to see Jupiter go retrograde within a couple of degrees of my Cancer midheaven, and then return to direct motion mere minutes from forming an opposition to my natal sun. It’s going to be an interesting time for me both personally and professionally as I will likely follow my own instincts into places that make me feel more secure in my own skin. With my natal moon in Cancer, as well, I might spend much of the next year like a hermit crab as I try to find something that fits me perfectly, like a new shell I found on the beach.
I’m also going to resolve to not protect anyone who doesn’t need my protection and to help those who do. At my last job, I sometimes gave people the benefit of the doubt when I knew better. As their supervisor, I was more like a forgiving father than a stern mother. Sometimes that strategy worked, and sometimes it didn’t. While that has nothing to do with why I resigned from my full-time position, I can see how being too nice contributed to my stress levels. That’s a “hard truth” I learned along the way. Even though I quit that job a couple of months ago, I’m just recognizing this facet of my character now.
Anyway, I’m happy that this day is finally here because I would like to see the world learn some hard truths. Donald Trump is planning his military parade at the end of this week, and he’s threatening Los Angeles with military occupation. The “No Kings Day” protests that have been planned on his birthday will test his mettle in a way that will likely be a turning point for American democracy. Whatever happens, I hope that it results in him staying home for the G7 summit in my home province. One terrific outcome of Jupiter’s ingress into Cancer is the idea that his overreach has revealed his Achilles heel. Although that might not stop him from continuing to test his authority, the pushback may challenge him in a way that he has never been challenged before.
I hope it does. I’m tired of him and his fellow Geminis ruining everything with their fucking lies. It’s time that America became the black widow spider and ate that thing that tried to fuck with it. If that’s the one thing that comes out of the Jupiter in Cancer era, I will consider myself lucky.
C’mon, Jupiter! Help us out . . .
