One of the most-welcome benefits of quitting my desk job is that in a month I’ve already started to feel better physically. I had a minor injury to one of my hip flexors that was not healing properly because I was stuck in a sitting position all day long at work. That injury is no longer keeping me up at night.
However, my quadriceps have been sore since I got a job on my feet. I think I’m just adapting to a more-active lifestyle again. This isn’t the first time in my life that my body has had to go through this process and it probably won’t be the last.
One of the more interesting things about Saturn’s recent ingress into my sixth house is that I seemed to anticipate its arrival. Reading Jessica Adam’s interpretation of the ringed planet’s transit through that sector of my chart makes me believe that I was somehow able to see what was coming:
“When Saturn transits the 6th house you enter a period of self-adjustment and re-organisation where you can change your thinking and how you work and create positive health habits. You may realise that you need to be more disciplined in the practical areas of your life, perhaps because of a crisis that forces you to face up to problems with your job or health.
Saturn will help you to decide what you need to do and to discriminate between what’s useful to you and what isn’t. You can find out how effective you are in doing what you’re trying to do and how useful you are to other people that you serve.
You might feel restless and be very busy, but if you waste your energies on unnecessary activity you could end up with health problems. You may also be too critical of yourself which can lead to depression or psychosomatic illnesses. Health problems may also be traced back to bad dietary habits or lack of exercise.
If you experience burnout, exhaustion, or a collapse in health and vitality, it’s a sign that you need to rethink what you’re doing. This is especially likely if you’re stuck in a dead-end job or spending too much time on meaningless tasks. You might also lose your job through illness or redundancy but this provides an opportunity to find a better way forward.
Saturn can help you to take responsibility for sorting out your health and this is the perfect time to establish positive habits in diet and exercise. You can rebuild your strength and energy and develop positive habits that will support your life into the future.”
Of course, it’s the line about the “dead-end job” that resonates with me the most because I can understand how bad that job was for me physically, mentally and spiritually now that I’ve left it. Feeling my legs returning to a healthier, more-adaptable state isn’t without its problems — I’m pretty sore at the moment — but I do believe that it’s for the best. It may be a little harder to adapt at my advanced age, but I’m going to get through this.
Anyway, I’m thrilled with myself for trusting my intuition and abandoning the single greatest stressor in my life. Now I just need to get to work on rebuilding what I lost over the past few years, just as the forecast above suggests.
I’m already on my way. I’m sure that I’ll look just like the guy in the photo in no time . . .
