Yesterday was the first warm day of the year where I live. You never know what you’re going to get in this part of the world; just ten days before, we had a foot of snow.

Anyway, I got outside and started to clean up my yard. It’s still wet in some places, and there are still a couple of glaciers that need to melt from where I piled up the snow while shoveling my driveway after last week’s blizzard. It felt so good to be outside in the sunshine, and I’m looking forward to spending the next few months doing more of the same. Yardwork is good for my soul.

Of course, my fondness for gardening was written in the stars. I have an earthy Capricorn sun sign, a pretentious Libra rising that makes me concerned with outward appearances (how my house looks from the street, for instance), and a nurturing Cancer moon. What’s more, the sun moves into my seventh house this time of year. It not only makes me want to beautify my surroundings, but it turns my focus to the idea that caring for the appearance of my immediate environment is self-care. Those things go hand-in-hand in my world. They’ll be even more connected when the sun enters Taurus in a couple of weeks.

For that reason, I’m going to concentrate on making my own little world a prettier place for a while. I’m in no hurry to work more, although I would welcome the opportunity to take on a more-rewarding job if something came up. I’ve got enough money saved up to spend the rest of April just being happy. By the time May arrives and the flowers start to bloom in my garden, I’ll probably be eager to move onto other things.

At the moment, though, I’m just happy to see my grass turn green again. For someone who adores “the finer things in life,” I can be a pretty simple guy.
