In about a month from now, transiting Saturn will park itself in the sky about eight minutes away from an exact opposition to my natal Uranus.
The last time this aspect occurred was right around my thirtieth birthday. I don’t remember if it was especially profound, but I do remember that I was feeling as if I was lacking “direction” at that time in my life. I was bored and eager to be doing something other than what I was doing, but I wasn’t really sure what that was. Nevertheless, I did make a conscious effort in the late nineties to change my circumstances. As my boredom with the “same old, same old” became oppressive, I did whatever I could to ensure that I wasn’t going to be stuck in that rut for the rest of my life.
Curiously, most interpretations of this transit focus on the Saturnian side of the alignment: the limitations imposed by Saturn. Some of them, however, give some credence to the fact that Uranus can act like a catalyst for change in situations like this. On astrolibrary.org, for instance, the aspect is described as follows:
“The transit of Saturn opposite your natal Uranus may bring more originality to your life or cause tension due to hindrances in self-expression. You desire excitement and novelty and are tempted to break free from anything that holds you back. Unexpected situations test your ability to adapt and make changes. Finding balance is crucial to avoid excessive tension.”
With both Saturn and Uranus personalized in my horoscope, I ought to give both planets their due. However, if my experience in the mid-to-late nineties taught me anything, it’s that I do have the ability to break free of the routines that hold me back. I took a lot of chances in the late nineties that really paid off in the long run.
So, I’m going to resolve to take a few more chances as this transit approaches. Just yesterday, Jupiter entered Gemini where it will remain for the next year. Soon it will move into my ninth house where it will form a conjunction with my natal Jupiter. The universe was already telling me to me more adaptable and open-minded as this change in the cosmic climate occurred. Now that I can see this Saturn/Uranus opposition forming, I need to embrace the idea that I am the one who is responsible to “bring more originality” to my life.
I will only be as bored as I allow myself to be . . .
