A high-school friend posted this photo of me yesterday on Facebook. I laughed out loud when I saw it. I was so young — probably sixteen at the time. I was with my friend Marissa. She was a punk rocker and probably the coolest girl in her grade. I believe this was taken at a school dance. I also laughed out loud when one of my old friends left a comment on Facebook that read “I’m pretty sure this guy was in Depeche Mode.”
Anyway, my knee-jerk reaction when I see something like this is to laugh. I’m a Capricorn with a Cancer moon. I’m not sentimental at all, but I do adore nostalgia. I always look back at things like this with a smile on my face, and yet there is nothing like this around my house. I believe I have an old photo album in my basement, but I can’t remember the last time that I pulled it out.
Astrologers often associate sentimentality with prominently-placed or personalized planets in Cancer. I understand why they would, but some of them expect everyone with those influences in their horoscopes to look back at the past through rose-colored glasses. I don’t really do that with my realistic Capricorn sun/Cancer moon combo. Nevertheless, I adore looking back at how stupid we were in the past. That’s the sort of assessment you would expect to hear from someone with so much cardinality in their natal chart. Just yesterday, for instance, I was telling someone that the opening scene of Adam Shankman’s “Hairspray” is my favorite part of the movie because of the scene where a very pregnant mother is smoking and drinking in a bar. I like it because it reminds me of how far we’ve come since the so-called “good old days.”
Do you have any prominent Cancer influences in your natal chart? How do they effect you? Do you look back at the past like me with a wink and a nod, or do you romanticize days gone by like so many other people? Let me know in the comments section or on one of my social media pages. I’d love to hear from you.
