The first part of May is eventful for me. Mercury moves back into my seventh house today after a brief retrograde dip back into my sixth house. On Friday, the sun moves into my eighth house, followed by a new moon in the same sector of my chart this coming Tuesday. Next Friday, Venus joins the sun in my eighth house, as well.
Right now, I’m mostly concerned with wrapping up a few details at my workplace before Mercury vacates my sixth house. My desk is a rather organized mess of half-finished projects, but I expect it to be pristine by the time I leave work this afternoon. That makes perfect sense, astrologically speaking. I also have an appointment for a full physical with my new doctor tomorrow. That makes sense, too, considering that I begun the process of finding this doctor before Mercury went retrograde. For anyone — including me — tying up loose ends while Mercury is leaving its retrograde shadow is always sound astrological advice.
Once Friday arrives, however, I should feel a shift in my priorities. “Café Astrology” describes the sun’s transit of the eighth house as follows:
“For the next month or so, the Sun energizes your sector of transformation, change, sexuality, personal growth, regeneration, others’ money and resources, addictions, and taxes. As a result, this is not the most gregarious of months for you. You take a step back, focus on intimacy with a partner, or simply retreat a little from the hectic pace of life.
This is an excellent time to create a budget or financial plan, or to rid yourself of bad habits that undermine your sense of personal power and self-mastery. All that is deeply personal comes into focus now. Intimate matters are especially important to you during this cycle. Just how well you are handling your life comes up for inspection.
Your self-mastery skills and psychological predisposition matter to you more than usual. This is the time of year when you are most desirous of change on a deep level. Clearing out psychic ‘junk’ or ridding yourself of bad habits may be part of the picture now. You are more willing than usual to explore life’s secrets.
This cycle brings greater in-depth understanding and an inclination to delve beneath the surface of matters to get to the bottom of them. Research uncovers new material that allows you to develop a better overall picture of the year’s events. This is an especially introspective cycle during which you have the chance to truly uncover your personal strengths and talents. On a more practical level, you may be dealing with joint finances and shared resources now more than usual.”
This is an encouraging forecast for a number of reasons, but mostly because I’m already feeling as if I am undergoing the process of “regeneration” now that I am on the other side of my recent health concerns. Having dental surgery and back surgery within a few weeks of each other was a challenge for me. I’d like to focus upon emerging from my brief convalescence better than ever. It’s kind of symbolic that the butterfly-print jacket I blogged about two days ago will arrive to my front door by courier today. The eighth house is often represented by images of a phoenix rising from the ashes, or a moth or butterfly emerging from a cocoon.
I’m going to take that symbolism to heart so that I can work on feeling “regenerated” over the next few weeks. I already feel as if I’m on my way. Like the silk moth in the photo above, I just need a little more time to stretch my wings before I start to fly.
Soon . . .
