Out of Office (source: Linkedin)

Venus made its annual opposition to my natal sun yesterday. I wasn’t really paying attention to what was going on in the sky yesterday morning because I had to be at work so early, so I didn’t really consider what was going on once I arrived there. I was surprised to discover that we were adequately staffed on a Saturday afternoon for the first time in as long as I can remember. For that reason, I cut out early for the first time ever. In three years at this job, I have never gone home early or used the personal time I am allotted “just because.”

It wasn’t until this morning that I realized that this Venus aspect occurred yesterday morning. My astro.com horoscope describes the event as follows:

“This influence can introduce much pleasantness into your life through good times, agreeable relationships, sexual attraction and friendship. The problems that you will confront during this time are: overindulgence, lack of self-discipline, and unwillingness to work. This influence does not fit you for demanding work or trying situations, for you are likely to be lazy and unwilling to rouse yourself. If you don’t have to accomplish anything, there is nothing wrong with this mood. In fact it is a good time to take it easy. But be careful not to overindulge in food or drink; today’s good feelings may be tomorrow’s headache! Your creative energies are stimulated, but you may lack the creative self-discipline that can turn a random outpouring of feelings into an artistic medium and disciplined art.”

While I wasn’t entirely lazy yesterday, I did sit on the couch for a while when I got home. I tried to watch a TV show, but I kept falling asleep. Once I realized that was going to be futile, I decided to force myself to do some housework. I wanted my environment to be prettier (which is a Venusian thing to do), but I also wanted to free up some time to take a legitimate day off. It’s a holiday in Canada on Monday, so I have a short work-week ahead of me. After I was finished, I went to bed early to try to watch the TV show I had started and I feel asleep again. I went to bed at 8:00 and woke up around 6:00. That’s so out-of-character for me; I might sleep ten hours once or twice in an entire year.

But getting ahead of my chores isn’t out of character for me: I have a Capricorn sun! Neither is giving into my indulgences when I know I can get away with it: Libra is my rising sign. However, “an unwillingness to work” is something I rarely encounter. Nevertheless, I just couldn’t get out of my place of employment fast enough.

Venus’ influence still might be effecting me this afternoon because it will square my ascendant tomorrow morning. But now that I’ve caught up on my chores, I’m not going to have to worry about whether or not I feel decadent for the rest of this long weekend. I’m going to cut myself some slack if I don’t get around to doing everything I had planned. My vacation may still be six weeks away, but I’ve already checked-out — at least for the moment. I can be a Capricorn again on Tuesday.

This annual aspect lines up again this evening, and I slept for nine-and-a-half hours last night. This post I wrote last year could have been written for today!
