Uranus (source: Wikipedia)

The third major aspect formed by Neptune’s current transit to the Uranus/Pluto/Chiron configuration in my horoscope is Neptune’s opposition to Uranus. “Astrodienst” describes the event as follows:

“This influence represents an enormous revolution in your consciousness, as you are exposed to aspects of life that you never dreamed possible. These might include any of the following: the occult or metaphysics; astrology; magic; altered states of consciousness, perhaps through drugs or meditation; or groups whose ideas are extremely idealistic and radical.

What is actually happening is that tremendous new understandings are asserting themselves in your life with such force that they seem to upset all your past ways of thinking. However, this is only a problem of perspective. At this time you are in the middle of these changes and cannot see the relationship between your new consciousness and your old. But they are related, which you will come to understand as the immediate impact of this influence begins to pass.

This is a period of tremendous psychological insights and change, but not much stability. Therefore keep your situation fluid enough that you can make changes as necessary. Do not try to build permanent structures at this time, because you will have to change them again and again. It should be noted, however, that the primary effects of this influence occur at the psychological level.

Possibly you will respond to this influence with confusion, doubt and uncertainty. Let it be, and wait for the situation to settle down. Try to minimize the elements of your life that require you to make long-range commitments, because your changing consciousness will make it difficult to continue such a commitment. If old goals lose their meaning, that is what must be. Be patient, and new goals will enter your life that will better fit your new state of mind.

Others may think you have gone out of your mind because of what you do and see at this time, but do not be concerned. This revolution in ideas and consciousness is a fundamental part of your life, and it must be allowed to pursue its own course.”

That’s quite a forecast! I’m not sure how to take it, though. These are two exceptionally slow-moving planets forming an aspect that is going to affect an entire generation of people.

Nevertheless, I do believe that this is an important aspect for me in particular because Uranus resides in my eleventh house (making it a personalized planet in my chart) and Neptune’s influence is particularly strong while the planet is moving through a sign with which it is associated. Sure, they may be “co-rulers” according to modern astrology, but over the decades that I’ve been practicing astrology, I’ve learned to appreciate the notion that the outer planets have influence over particular signs and houses. Yet this aspect is one that is still not as close as the Pluto and Chiron aspects that I am definitely feeling already. When it gets a little closer later this spring, perhaps I’ll start to feel it as much as I am feeling the other two.

But I digress! The thing that interests me the most about this passage from “Astrodienst” is the second-last sentence: “Others may think you have gone out of your mind because of what you do and see at this time, but do not be concerned.” As an astrologer and a pretty clever guy, that’s always a concern for me. I always wonder if people think I’m a flake for having spiritual beliefs that they don’t share. Do they feel bad for not reading my blog? Of course not!

But as I mentioned yesterday while discussing the imminent conjunction of Neptune with my natal Chiron, there is no point in proving my worth to the unworthy. If I’m on a spiritual journey that is different than anyone else’s spiritual journey, that’s my f***ing business. When someone comes to my door with a pamphlet that tells me that I’m going to hell, I need to stop feeling bad when I tell them that I’m not interested in what they have to say.

Most of us are on the same journey, even if we’re on different paths. The thing that I’m starting to realize is that there are people in the world who are too selfish to accept the idea that alternative paths exist. It is a revelation to me because I’ve tried my hardest to believe that we all have goodness inside of us. However, the conduct of people who live only in the material realm has made me realize that I was wrong: there really are soulless people in the world, like Donald Trump and the cult that worships him. Now that I recognize that, I can move on. It’s as simple as that.

Again, I wonder how the other people born in 1965 and 1966 who are experiencing the same Neptune aspects are coping with this one-in-a-lifetime lineup of the planets. If you’re one of them, I’d love to hear what you have to say in the comments section.

  2. You’re definitely not alone. The past year has been incredibly eye opening and I imagine the next few years will be as well. My focus in my writing has turned toward mental health and recovery which I guess is appropriate for these transits.
