Mars moves into my first house this morning for a brief stay. The red planet is moving swiftly through the signs at the moment, and it’s only going to spend about six weeks in the personality sector of my chart.

That’s probably as much Mars as I can handle, anyway. I’m thrilled to know that my physical energy level is supposed to increase, and I’m happy to know that the paranoia/reluctance to move forward associated with Mars in the twelfth house should be replaced with overconfidence and braggadocio — a more normal state of affairs for me. Yet I also appreciate the ebb and flow of these cycles. Come January, I’ll be ready for a break from the aggressive influence of the planet.

While I was checking out how long Mars would be in my first house, I decided to see where its 2018 retrograde would occur in my chart. The entire episode will take place in my fourth house, from the beginning of May through mid-November.

Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out how to work at home again without being overwhelmed by the crushing boredom that I feel when I’m stuck in one place for too long. Mars spending more than six months in my fourth house is either going to teach me how to make it work, or it’s going to send me running for the door. I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

I like to look at Mars when I discuss career matters — probably a lot more than most other astrologers. My natal Mars actually sits in my fourth house, so the notion that I’ve adopted a home-based career should not come as a surprise. Still, the energy of Mars is quite contrary to most of the more-staid elements of my natal chart, and I find that I fight Mars’ influence just as much as I embrace it.

I guess I need to find a way to live with the guy throughout 2018. If I don’t, it’s going to be rough. For now, however, the two of us are going to have some fun. I’ve got six weeks of Martian foolishness in my future. I’d better enjoy it while I can.

Mars enters my first house today, and many of the things I wrote in this post from a few years ago will once again hold true. However, Mars won’t turn retrograde for another year, and that’s something for which I can be thankful. Also, I need to take my own advice and evaluate where I’m directing my energy during this cycle, especially when it comes to professional matters.
